There is Only One Shere Khan

Walt Disney's 1967 version of The Jungle Book (directed by Wolfgang Reitherman) with the voice talents of Phil Harris, Sebastian Cabot, George Sanders, Sterling Holloway, along with the great Louie Prima, and of course Bruce Reitherman, whose contributions helped create iconic performances and iconic characters that come to life on the big and little screen. Legendary animators Milt Kahl, Eric Larson, Hal Ambro, Hal King, John Lounsbery, Walt Stanchfield, Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston, with the combined talents of many other artist created a most memorable, charming and entertaining film.

As much as I enjoyed the current 3D version of the film, which also has great voice talent, from actors such as Ben Kingsley, Bill Murray and Christopher Walken, along with having some amazing 3D technical qualities, I still find the 1967 animated film much more entertaining. For what it is, a 78 minute 2D feature, the 1967 film is seamless; as beautiful as the new film is, I have to admit that I cannot say it is also seamless. That is not say that there wont be a version of The Jungle Book film out there that can compare to the 1967 version - but you have to admit the artists/ film-makers of the 1967 film raised the bar pretty darn high.
